Navigate the fascinating displays of the Whipple Museum for the History of Science with our critical tour that delves deep into the complex themes that have shaped the course of scientific discovery. This tour offers visitors a unique perspective on the history of science, encouraging reflection on the societal and ethical dimensions that often remain hidden beneath scientific discourse. The Whipple Museum, located in the heart of Cambridge, is renowned for its extensive collection of scientific and medical instruments. This tour goes beyond the displays to shed light on the untold stories, controversies, and struggles that have marked the journey of scientific advancement. This critical tour will also address the difficult history of science, including the moments when scientific progress clashed with ethics, morality, and human rights. The tour will explore controversies, such as the role of science in eugenics, colonialism, and will provide insights into how notions of gender, race, and socio-economic disparity have influenced the development of science. Reccommended for ages 10 and older. Meet at the front desk of the Whipple Museum. Fully accessible, please use the back door of the Museum for elevator.
